My son, er, daughter

I'm beginning to wonder if people just assume all babies are boys. I usually think I either heard them wrong, or that maybe people just use male pronouns for all people. Three examples we've had in public recently:

Cute old couple talking about Claire, not sure if they knew I could hear them-
Woman- Oh, look at that cute little guy! He's so sweet. Look at that smile!
Man- I think it's a girl.
Woman- How do you know?
Man- She's got pink socks!

Woman from my old ward-Aww, what's his name?
Me- Claire
Woman- Aw, my daughter just named her daughter Clara. When was he born?
Me- June 13th
Woman- My granddaughter was born the 21st! (walks away, perhaps wondering why I named my son Claire and put him in a purple dress with a pink bib)

Older sisters, sister 1 (s1) and sister 2 (s2) at the fabric shop. Claire was wearing pink tights under her jeans, a brown shirt with pink polka dots, and a pink bib.
S1- He's so cute, how old?
Me- Almost 7 months
S1- He's so happy in that thing (the wrap)!
Me- Yep, she loves being in here!
S1- Wait, is it a boy or a girl?
Me- A girl.
S1- Oh, well, she doesn't have any hair!
Me- Uh huh
S2- Well, (daughter's name) didn't have any hair when she was born.
S1- That's right, neither did (granddaughter's name).

I guess my poor bald baby will be mistaken for a boy for quite a while!

Lol. People are so weird. In the Philippines I don't think they have a word (in Tagalog) for she/he, so in English they always mess it up. But these people have no excuse!

I think people immediately assume "boy" unless the kid has a bow in her hair. Or has really long hair, which babies don't have.

Don't worry, Brie. Claire does NOT look like a boy. People are just dumbies!

Brooke was mistaken for a boy until she was almost 2 just because she didn't have much hair. I always heard "What a cute little boy" when she was dressed in a pink flowered dress. Some things never change.

Ella was ALWAYS called a boy....and she was dressed super girly all the time too, up until shlittle little over a year and started wearing pigtails....and her first summer when she was claire's age she wore nothing but sundresses. Now because the boys have long hair old people think they are girls...the poor older generation (insert eye rolling here;)
